A few days after finding out he was named one of 10 winners of the annual VHSL Achievement Award, Western Albemarle's Daniel Kuzjak was honored at the Omni Hotel in Charlottesville.
"I spent my entire high school career, my entire life even, working hard at everything I did, and working hard at both sports and in the classroom, and it means a lot to receive such an honor," Kuzjak said after the ceremony.
Kuzjak was named the 2013 Group AA Male Athlete of the Year. He was an all-state wide receiver for the Warriors in 2012, after catching 54 passes for 971 yards and 10 touchdowns. He also qualified for the AA indoor track state meet in three events -- the long jump, 300-meter dash, and 4x400 relay. In the classroom, Kujzak is a member of the National Honor Society, Math Honor Society, English Honor Society and National Latin Honor Society.
"You put a lot on your plate, you're going to get a lot out of it," he said. "As long as you work hard, it's going to be a grind; you're going to lose sleep. You're going to have to work hard at it, but in the end it's all worth it. And stuff like this makes it worth it, and really makes all the time you put in kind of pay of for you."
Kuzjak will continue his football career next year at William & Mary next year.
