Louisa County head football coach Jon Meeks called him the "face of Louisa County football." Now Zack Jackson will get a chance to shine at the next level, signing at a ceremony Thursday to play at Virginia State.
Jackson played quarterback and safety for the Lions, but will focus on the defensive side of the ball at Virginia State. He was a two-time All-Jefferson District First-Team selection at safety.
Jackson also considered Virginia-Wise and Liberty, but a familiar face at VSU was a big factor in making him a Trojan.
Former Monticello head coach Rodney Redd is the new Defensive Backs coach at Virginia State and made recruiting Jackson a priority once Redd was cleared to recruit in the area.
"It's actually a funny story," Jackson relayed. "I was at the Falcon Club banquet and (Redd) came up behind me and said 'I got my clearance. You'll be hearing from me very shortly.'"
"That just lifted me up right there," he continued. "First of all he knows how I play. He's coached against me for two years and he's already said you're a tough player and I wouldn't want to play against you and so I knew he was going to do everything he could to get me on campus."
Jackson was flanked by his family at the signing and said this day was one they had all been anticipating."
"I've been looking forward to this day for a long time. Going through football season not exactly knowing where I'm going, everyone asking me 'Where are you going?' and I'm like 'I'm not sure yet, but it's going to come' and so the fact that I can set my feet and start trucking along is really exciting."
