Rain and lightning delayed several local games, but no contests were cancelled tonight as a result, leaving another exciting week of high school football in the Charlottesville area.
Western Albemarle and Monticello met in our Friday Night EndZone Game of the Week. The Mustangs went into the locker room at halftime up 20-6 and never looked back, cruising to the 39-14 win. Takeem Hedgeman rushed for 246 yards and four touchdowns. Monticello improves to 6-1, 3-0 in the Jefferson District.
Orange traveled to Charlottesville to battle the Black Knights, and barely escaped with the win. The Hornets got by with a 22-20 victory.
William Monroe earned its first victory in 24 games, getting by Fluvanna, 7-3. The Dragons improve to 1-6, while the Flucos remain unbeaten. James Cowan had 87 rushing yards, while Dakota Byron scored the only touchdown of the game on a 39 yard rush.
In Commonwealth District action, Albemarle got back to .500 with a 26-14 win against Mountain View. Josh Hill led the Patriots with two rushing touchdowns, while Jeremy Robinson added a rushing and a passing score. Zach Vrhovac pulled down the TD reception.
The STAB Saints grabbed a 46-23 over cross-town rival Covenant. Alex Asher pulled down five receptions for 87 yards. Jack Thomasson rushed for 154 yards and two TD's, while Howie Long had 119 yards through the air and a touchdown pass.
