Adam Utz was the only player in double figures, and led Albemarle with 12 points, as the Patriots downed cross county rival Western Albemarle, 53-38, to open their season. Albemarle improves to 1-0 on the year, while the Warriors fall to 0-1. Ryan Hughes led Western with nine points in the losing effort.
The Warrior girls fared better, however, sneaking by the Patriots, 47-44. Molly Schwoebel led the way with 20 points, while Mary Schwartz chipped in 14. C.J. Jackson led the Patriots with 12. Albemarle opens its season on a loss and falls to 0-1, while the Warriors are now 2-0, after tipping off their season with a win over Virginia Episcopal last night.
In private school action, the Covenant girls fell to Denbigh Baptist tonight, 38-35. Denbigh jumped out to a lead, and pulled away, then held off a late Eagles' comeback attempt.
