The Western Albemarle Boys Basketball Team overcame a double digit third quarter deficit to rally and beat Albemarle. It marks the first time in two seasons that the Warriors have defeated their cross-county rivals.
The Patriots held the lead into halftime, and opened up a 14 point advantage as the third quarter came to a close, but Western rallied in the fourth, stepping up the defense and hitting key shots, and pulled out the 52-47 win. Albemarle falls to 1-2 on the season.
The Fluvanna boys improved to 3-1 on the year by knocking off Goochland, 79-73. Julian Ramirez paced the Flucos with 18 points, while Kyle Stevens added ten. The victory comes one night after Fluvanna head coach Munro Rateau grabbed his 400th career win in 26 seasons at the helm of the Fluco bench.
On the girls side, Albemarle was able to sneak by Western, 30-29. Abby Hendrix and C.J. Jackson each scored seven points, respectively. The Warriors' Mary Schwartz paced all scorers with a game high ten points in the losing cause.
