Mary Schwartz scored 20 points to lead the Western Albemarle girls basketball team past Charlottesville tonight, 56-50. The Warriors improve to 10-1 in the Jefferson District, tied atop the standings with Orange.
This game was back and forth the entire way, until the Warriors opened up the six point advantage in the fourth quarter. Molly Schwoebel added eleven points for Western. Shawntae Payne paced Charlottesville in the losing effort with a game high of 23 points.
As for the Knights, after not losing a district game for more than four years, they have fallen twice in one week, and currently sit at 9-3 in the Jefferson District. Charlottesville fell to Orange on Tuesday for the second time this season, and then again to the Warriors tonight.
The Warriors will meet Orange on Tuesday, as both enter the contest with only one district loss. The winner moves into sole possession of first place.
