The Jefferson District boys basketball tournament gets underway tomorrow, and is not nearly as clear as in years past. With the regular season coming down to a tie breaking one game playoff between Charlottesville and Monticello, the tournament is set to be full of nail-biters.
The Knights earned the top seed and a first round bye by knocking off Monticello in that playoff on Saturday night. Charlottesville also earns an automatic berth in the Region II tournament. Tomorrow's quarterfinal action features second seeded Monticello hosting Louisa, with the winner facing the victor of number three Orange and number six William Monroe. Fluvanna and Western Albemarle will battle for the right to advance to face the top seeded Black Knights. All quarterfinal action takes place at the better seeded school. A win in the district tournament results in an automatic bid in the Region II playoffs as well.
Girls action got underway this past Saturday with quarterfinals being played. Charlottesville, Orange, and Louisa, along with top seeded Western Albemarle will tip off in semifinal action on Wednesday at Monticello High School. Western will take on fourth seeded Louisa at 6:30, with the next semifinal match up between Orange and the Knights tipping off at 8:00.
