They don't miss the playoffs often in Louisa County but that's exactly what the Lions did in 2012, failing to qualify for the first time in four seasons.

Last season was a learning experience for Jon Meeks and the Lions, and they say they're now ready to move on and get back in the hunt for the postseason.

"I really don't even like thinking about it in my memories," senior tailback Deion Johnson said. "I'm trying to put it far behind me but hopefully this year we can do way better."

"We miss the playoffs around here once every 4-5 years," Meeks explained. "So as long as we take a long break from that I'm happy. We came in off a big win last year, my guys are excited to get back in the playoffs and get a home playoff game."

And that big win was likely the biggest upset in the Jefferson District last year. Louisa went into Western Albemarle on the final week of the season, handing the Warriors their only regular season loss and catapulting the Lions into 2013.

"Absolutely. As good as they were, to go in there and beat them at 9-0. To get that win on a difficult season, we're going to ride that as long as we can," Meeks said.

If the Lions are able to carry that momentum through the season, they may find themselves back in a familiar spot: the top of the Jefferson District standings and most importantly, the postseason.

"Most people are sleeping on us but like I said, we're going to be back on top and we're coming back this year. We're ready."
