The Albemarle girls lacrosse team used a second half rally to break the game open, and went on to top Westfield, 12-9, in AAA state quarterfinal action. The Patriots now advance to the semifinals, and find themselves two wins away from state gold. The Pats led by one at halftime, and outscored Westfield 7-5 in the second half to clinch the win.
The Patriots baseball team was not as lucky, falling to Colonial Forge, 13-12, in the Northwest Region championship game. Vince Coles went 3-5 with two RBI to pace Albemarle in the losing effort. The Patriots are guaranteed at least one more game, as they will travel to James River for state quarterfinal action on Tuesday.
In girls soccer action, the Charlottesville girls fell to Broad Run tonight, 6-1, in the Region II championship. The Black Knights will take part in states at a date and time to be determined next week.
