Sarah Harper tallied 12 kills and Aja Linton added 14 digs, as the Western Albemarle volleyball team topped Wilson Memorial, 3-0, to open its 2008 season. The Warriors are coming off a 2007 which saw them win another Jefferson District regular season and tournament title, and look to start a run that ends in an eventual state championship.
The Warriors took game one, 25-21, battled in game two to take it 25-20, and won game three comfortably by a 25-17 score. Western used its depth during the match, as almost the entire roster saw time in the game. Only three of the players on that roster are seniors.
Western Albemarle continues its season on Tuesday, as they travel to Albemarle for a cross-county rivalry. Their first district match up will be September 9 at Louisa.
