Friday night several area teams took the floor looking for early season victories.
CBS 19 covered three games on the boys side, including the semifinals of the Hoops for Hope Classic at Western Albemarle High School. In game one, Covenant fell to R.E. Lee by a final of 57-51. The nightcap put the host Warriors against Battlefield. Western got behind early on, but came back for an impressive 66-50 win over Battlefield. Western and R.E. Lee will play in Saturday night's finals.
There was also one of the better rivalry games on the boys side between Charlottesville and Albemarle. The Black Knights led by one after the first quarter, but really turned it on late to come away with a 67-55 win over the Patriots on their home floor. Kevin Leatherwood led all scorers with 18 points for Charlottesville.
Albemarle also entertained Charlottesville on the girls side. The Patrios trailed early, but went on to win the game by a final of 55-49.
