Adam Utz and Cameron Anderson each scored 16 points, as the Albemarle boys basketball team topped Colonial Forge, 68-58, in overtime on Friday night. The win pulls the Patriots to 1-1 in Commonwealth District play, after they fell to Stafford on Tuesday night.
Western Albemarle and Louisa met to open Jefferson District play, with the Warriors taking it, 60-45. The Lions kept the contest close until late in the third quarter, when Western was able to open up a lead and hold them off.
Orange and Madison met for the second time in as many weeks, this time on the Mountaineers' home court, but the result was the same. Madison topped the Hornets, 75-63. Tim Taylor's squad improves to 5-0 on the young season.
Blue Ridge looked sharp on Friday, taking on Covenant and rolling to the 74-51 victory. Kristijan Krijina paced the Barons with 16 points on the night. The Eagles' Brian Clarry scored a game high 29 points in the losing effort.
Fluvanna traveled to Buckingham looking for a win, but was over-matched by the Knights. The Flucos fell on the road, 66-53.
Girls action found Western Albemarle and Louisa tipping off in Jefferson District action. Ellen Shaffrey scored 18 points to lead the Warriors, as Western cruised to the 46-27 win.
Madison played host to Orange, but did not have the same luck as the boys. The Hornets opened up a second half lead to hold off the Mountaineers, winning 43-28.
Ariel Stewart scored eleven points and dished out ten assists to pace Fluvanna to one of its biggest wins in recent history. The Flucos led 50-15 at the half, en route to a 83-26 win over Buckingham. Fluvanna improves to 5-0 on the year.
