The Orange and Western Albemarle boys basketball teams split their regular season series, and tonight's game was a fantastic rubber match. The two teams met on the Warriors' home court to decide the Jefferson District title, and in the end it was the Hornets who were just one point better.

Tied at 53, Quintin Hunter drove towards the basket and was fouled with 0.6 seconds to play. Hunter made the first free throw to put Orange up 54-53. He missed the second free throw intentionally and Western pulled down the rebound and called time out with just 0.3 to play. The Warriors last second heave was intercepted by D.J. Brown, clinching the title for the Hornets. It marks Orange's fourth consecutive Jefferson District tournament title.

Christian Pierce of Western led all scorers with 21 points in the loss, while Brown paced Orange with 15.

Bull Run District championship action saw Madison keep its perfect season alive, topping Clarke, 56-49. The Mountaineers took a two point lead into halftime, and were able to hold off a pesky Eagles squad. It marks Madison's third win of the year against Clarke. They improve to 24-0, and will host a regional playoff game on Wednesday night.

STAB advanced to the Prep League championship game Friday, getting by Woodberry Forest, 71-65. The Saints will tip off with Christchurch on Saturday afternoon at 3:00 in the title game. In other private school action, Covenant downed Evangal on Friday, 72-63.

Girls action saw Charlottesville edge William Monroe for the Jefferson District title, 47-37. The Knights held a three point lead at halftime, and were able to pull away in the second. These two teams had split their regular season match ups. Both teams now advance to the Region II tournament.

Covenant played host to St. Gertrude's on Friday and came away with a 34-27 win. Ellen Smethurst led the way with 22 points.
