The Orange and Western Albemarle boys basketball teams split their regular season series, and tonight's game was a fantastic rubber match. The two teams met on the Warriors' home court to decide the Jefferson District title, and in the end it was the Hornets who were just one point better.
Tied at 53, Quintin Hunter drove towards the basket and was fouled with 0.6 seconds to play. Hunter made the first free throw to put Orange up 54-53. He missed the second free throw intentionally and Western pulled down the rebound and called time out with just 0.3 to play. The Warriors last second heave was intercepted by D.J. Brown, clinching the title for the Hornets. It marks Orange's fourth consecutive Jefferson District tournament title.
Christian Pierce of Western led all scorers with 21 points in the loss, while Brown paced Orange with 15.
