Charlottesville Boys and Girls Advance in Region II Tournament

The Charlottesville boys basketball team looked sharp on Thursday night in the Region II semifinals. The Black Knights topped Loudoun County, 79-68, to punch their ticket to the regional championship game. Maurice Jackson had 24 points to lead Charlottesville, while Omari Minor had 18. Joe Bushrod of Loudoun County scored a game high 36 points, including seven three pointers.

The Knights will face Orange in the Region II Championship. The Hornets topped Broad Run, 65-59. Quintin Hunter led the way with 28 points, while Mike Nixon chipped in eleven. Charlottesville and Orange will meet in the regional final on Saturday at 8:00pm at Monticello High School.

In other boys action, William Monroe lost a heart-breaker to Dominion, 40-38, while Covenant topped North Cross, 66-65, to advance to the VIC Division II finals.

Girls action saw Charlottesville advance as well. The Black Knights got 18 points from Shawntae Payne to lead them to a 55-33 win. Charlottesville will face Loudoun County in the Region II Championship on Saturday evening. Action tips off at 6:00 and takes place at Monticello High School.

Other girls action saw Orange fall at Loudoun County, 76-44, and William Monroe lose at Freedom, 65-40.
