Several High School Teams Hit Field Despite Rain

May 5, 2009

Rain postponed or canceled much of Tuesday night's scheduled high school action, but several teams got their contests in. Some teams switched venues so they could play on turf fields, while others hit their home field despite the elements.

Saint Anne's Belfield and Western Albemarle were scheduled to clash in Crozet on Tuesday in boys lacrosse action, but instead shifted their match up to STAB's turf field. Western still served as the home team. The Saints jumped out to a four goal lead, and went on to win, 12-5.

The Monticello boys lacrosse team continued with its scheduled game in Mustang Country on Tuesday night. Monticello played host to Eastern View, with the Mustang seniors playing their final game in front of the home crowd. The contest was close in the early going, but Monticello pulled away to earn the 16-8 victory.

Charlottesville and Orange were set to meet on the Knights' home field in boys soccer action. Due to the soggy conditions, the contest was moved to Carr's Hill Field on the campus of the University of Virginia. The Hornets took a 2-1 lead into the half, but Charlottesville came out firing in the second. The Knights scored three second half goals to power past Orange, 4-2.
