Several of our area teams took the basketball court on Wednesday night for district battles. Many of the games were close as Jefferson District play is already starting to heat up.
On the boys side Western Albemarle traveled to William Monroe. This marked the first meeting between the two teams since the Dragons upset the Warriors at Western last season in postseason play. The Warriors were able to grab some revenge, topping William Monroe, 55-50.
Monticello hosted Goochland Wednesday night with the two teams battling back and forth. The Bulldogs were able to pull away in the fourth quarter and go on for the 55-50 victory.
Girls action saw the same match ups headlined by Western and William Monroe. In a contest that went down to the wire, the Warriors nipped the Dragons, 41-40.
Carla Brooks scored 19 points for Monticello to lead the Mustangs past Goochland, 62-41. Mike Mountjoy's team improved to 3-0 on the season, after only winning two games last year.
