High School Teams Advance in VISAA Tournament, Others Await Opponents

While the VHSL state tournaments will not tip off until the weekend, the private school circuit is in full swing in states. The VISAA tournaments tipped off Tuesday and local teams fared well to open things up.

In Division 2 action, the Covenant girls hit the road to Wakefield and earned a first round victory. The Eagles topped Wakefield, 45-43, to advance. Tandem Friends was the only other private school team in action today. The Badgers earned a 49-43 victory over Amelia Academy to advance in Division 3.

Wednesday will feature more VISAA action. The STAB girls will tip off with Norfolk Collegiate at 5:00 pm. The Saints earned a first round bye and earned the right to host. Norfolk Collegiate defeated Portsmouth Christian on Tuesday to move on.

Boys action will see Covenant hosting Roanoke Catholic in Division 2. The Eagles fell in the VIC championship game on Saturday, but still earned the right to get a first round bye and host a state quarterfinal match up. They'll host a Roanoke Catholic team that is coming off a Tuesday win over Fishburne Military Academy.

Blue Ridge hits the court for Division 1 action. The Barons host a quarterfinal match up against Paul IV, which defeated Flint Hill to advance.
