August 2, 2010
When the clock hit 12:01 am Monday morning, many people had already called it a night as another work week approached. Many high school football players were in bed to rest up for the opening of preseason camp, but in Louisa, it marked the beginning of the 2010 football season, as 12:01 am saw the Lions hitting the field.
Mark Fischer and his team hit the gridiron for their fourth midnight practice since 2006, as the squad takes the practice field at the first possible minute it is allowed to by the VHSL. No pads are worn with the exception of helmets and the team took part in basic drills during the session.
Louisa returns a good portion of a 2009 team that advanced to the regional playoffs, where the Lions fell to Liberty. Louisa finished to regular season 7-3 and in third place behind Goochland and Western Albemarle.
We will have plenty more on the 2010 high school football season when we begin our individual team previews on Monday, August 9. Tune into CBS19 News at 6:00 on Monday to see highlights and hear the team's thoughts on the midnight madness.
