The Albemarle boys lacrosse team overcame a 6-1 halftime deficit Friday, outscoring Briar Woods 8-1 in the final 24 minutes of play. The 9-7 victory clinched a spot in the state semifinals, marking their first final four appearance since 2008.
After starting the season 18-0, the Patriots (19-1) lost their only game of the year in the Regional Championship and are now just two wins away from being the first boys team from Central Virginia to claim a state title.
But first, the team must get past Chantilly (20-1), the Northern Region champions who bested Albemarle in the 2009 state tournament in overtime.
The Patriots and Chargers meet Wednesday at Westfield High School at 7:30 p.m.
