Flanked by his parents, high school coach and college coach, Justin Vestal was all smiles as he signed on to continue his baseball career at West Virginia Tech.

"I went on an official visit a little whole ago and I just fell in love with the campus, love the baseball field, fit in well with everyone down there," Vestal said. "That's all she wrote. I love it."

The Albemarle senior provided key depth for the Patriots this season, making some big catches in the outfield and driving in some game-winning runs.

A recent workout was enough to convince the Golden Bears and head coach Lawrence Nesselrodt, who came in all the way from West Virginia to attend the signing ceremony.

West Virginia Tech competes at the NAIA level and finished 24-28 this season. A doubleheader sweep in which the Golden Bears flashed some big-time offense convinced Vestal.

"I was there for a doubleheader and they just slaughtered the other team in both games. So I want to go to a good program. I want to help a good program too. That's what I plan to do."

Vestal also believes playing at Albemarle should make the transition to the next level a smooth one.

"Playing at the AAA level (in high school) is almost like a ramp (to college). So I think that will help."
