Football season is still months away but some local high school athletes had a chance to test their skills Sunday afternoon at the Central Virginia Elite Combine at Monticello High School.
The Combine was put on by Joe Sanford of the Athelite Factory and Scrimmage Play. Over 50 local athletes came out to participate in events like the 40 yard dash, shuttle drill and broad jump.
"It's great to have, especially in Central Virginia, to get each player the real looks. Everyone needs to have the same opportunity and to have this combine is a great opportunity and it's great to have in Central Virginia," Fork Union Junior Brett Siegel said.
The Combine is a way to help increase recruiting stock for the players. The results of the Combine will be sent to college football coaches in Virginia and surrounding states in hopes of shining a spotlight on the area and its players.
"I'm just trying to get the experience so when I get to the higher levels I'll be able to perform better and just be able to get the numbers that make people go 'Wow'", Monticello sophomore T.J. Tillery added.
