Malcolm Cook says he was shocked to hear the news that Jim Reid had been fired from his role as UVa's defensive coordinator. Cook says he's now looking into other options.

"Right now, I am still a Virginia Cavalier, but you know, I am still looking."

The four-star safety said Reid is a significant part of his commitment to Virgina, and that he and the Cavaliers former defensive coordinator have a relationship that went beyond coach and player.

"It's like a son and father type relationship, you know, I really looked up to coach Reid. Everything that he did for me, you know, if it wasn't for him I wouldn't be here right now at Fork Union, so he took the chance to get me out, and get me a better education."

Cook says he's now looking into a number of different schools. With Fork Union teammate Christian Hackenberg committed to Penn State, there are reports the Nittany Lions are on his radar. But he says there's an important factor keeping him committed to UVa.

"The education part. If I was to get a University of Virginia degree, it would be at the top of the list, it's up there, you know. So that's really, mostly the only part that's keeping me in it."

UVa head coach Mike London met with Cook at FUMA on Monday to talk about their situation.

"His general message was to just, you know, he's going to stay committed, and that's whether we break a leg or break an arm, 100% he just wanted us to know, that we're still committed to him 100%," Cook says of London's visit.

At this point, Cook is not 100% sure of his decision. When asked what percent chance there is that he'll be in a Cavalier uniform next fall, he replied "45-50."
