The current high school football season will be the last for Fork Union head coach Micky Sullivan.
The school announced Sullivan's decision in a release Friday afternoon. Sullivan will remain the athletic director at Fork Union.
"As a coach," Sullivan said in the release, "I ask my players to give me one hundred percent of their effort. It's not fair to ask that of them when I'm not able to meet the same standard all the time. I'd rather quit coaching two years too early, than stay two minutes too long."
Sullivan has a record of 185-102-2 in 28 seasons as head coach of the Blue Devils -- plus a 2-1 record this year -- and he's won eight VISAA state titles. Fork Union travels to Powhatan Friday night.
According to the release, Fork Union is planning "an appropriate recognition" for Sullivan at the Blue Devils' final home game of the season, November 2 against Woodberry Forest.
