Fluvanna County has head coaches for its first boys and girls lacrosse teams.
Rich Little will be the inaugural coach of the boys lacrosse team. Little had spent the last two seasons as head coach at Covenant, before stepping down in November.
The school has also hired Jenny Payne to coach the girls' team. She's a teacher at Fluvanna Middle School.
Fluvanna is working to launch boys' and girls' varsity and JV lacrosse programs for the upcoming spring season. Construction of a new high school building - and the new turf field that accompanies the building - will provide the facilities needed to support the sport.
Fluvanna will be the fourth Jefferson District school to offer lacrosse as a varsity program, joining Charlottesville, Monticello, and Western Albemarle.
Brian Wilberger, the vice president of the local chapter of U.S. Lacrosse, said in an email on Wednesday that U.S. Lacrosse had provided the school with grant that will provide full equipment for 20 boys and 20 girls. He also said fund-raising efforts continue for the programs.
