13 of the 16 Region II tournament games were postponed on Tuesday night due to winter weather, but several area teams still found themselves in action. Five area squads took the floor in hopes off keeping their seasons alive.
It's been a disappointing week for the Fluvanna boys, who forfeited their first round Jefferson District Tournament win last week due to a rules violation. Things started to look up for the Flucos on Tuesday, as they took the court as the number one seed in the Region II, Division 3 Tournament. Fluvanna topped a familiar William Monroe team, 50-47, to advance to Thursday's regional semifinal. The Flucos will face either Monticello or Woodgrove.
Covenant took the court in the VIC quarterfinals and rolled to a 70-49 win over Eastern Mennonite. The Eagles advance to the conference semfinals, where they will travel to Hargrave Military Academy on Thursday night at 7:00 pm.
On the girls side, Charlottesville topped Monticello for the fourth time this season, beating the Mustangs, 48-35, in Region II, Division 3 quarterfinal action. These two teams were coming off a battle in last Friday's Jefferson District championship game. The Knights used a big fourth quarter to pull away, after having to claw back following a Monticello run to open the second half. The Knights will face the winner of Western Albemarle and Park View on Thursday night.
