It's a first-time feeling for the entire Fluvanna football team as they enter preseason camp with a familiar face as head coach. Jason Barnett returns for a second season with the Flucos, providing stability and unity for a team that hasn't had a winning season since 2002.
"These guys are smart, they're energetic they're all excited to be here. We're trying to turn a program around."
Coach Barnett's enthusiasm has also added excitement to the Fluvanna squad and a rally cry to live by.
"It means so many different things," senior lineman Ben Lacey said of the team motto. "It's 11 guys on the field, no matter what, even if it's scout team offense. It's a real united thing for us, that we're all here for each other."
The number also represents the goal of getting to an 11th game.
"We want to make the playoffs and we feel that we're the type of team that can be strong enough to make the playoffs," added Barnett. "So we're playing for 11 in 2011."
The Flucos finished 4-6 last season and will open the year on Friday August 26 at Prince Edward County.
