Fluvanna's Tibbs Set to Join Spiders

Fluvanna County senior Dashon Tibbs was wearing a Richmond Spiders sweatshirt on Monday, along with a Richmond football hat -- and a wide smile across his face.

Tibbs couldn't hide his excitement Monday afternoon at a brief ceremony celebrating his decision to walk on with Richmond's football program next season.

"It was a long process, but it feels good that it fell into place as I wanted it to go," said Tibbs. "I've got a great school, get a great education. And I'll get to play with a great team. They just won the CAA championship."

Tibbs said the Spiders had been his top choice throughout his college football recruitment. Richmond's primary recruiting competition, according to Tibbs, came from a pair of in-state Division III schools, Christopher Newport and Hampden-Sydney.

The Spiders' walk-on offer -- with the opportunity to earn a scholarship down the road -- came about two weeks ago. And Tibbs says he's fine with switching from quarterback, where he played at Fluvanna, to wide receiver in college.

"Yeah, I think I can work with it," he said. "Because coming from the quarterback position, I'll be able to find the holes as a wide receiver. And I've just got to get used to running routes. It'll be a good transition."
