On opening night of the Jefferson District tournament, all higher seeds advanced to the second round of playoffs. For the boys, No. 3 seed Western Albemarle defeated No. 6 Powhatan 53-31 and will advance to meet No. 2 Monticello in the semifinals. Charlottesville cruised past No. 5 Louisa in the other quarterfinal, 88-48. The No. 4 Knights meet top-ranked Fluvanna Wednesday February 15. Both games are at Western Albemarle.
The Warrior girls, the three seed, ousted No. 6 Fluvanna 35-19 to set up a date with No. 2 Monticello. Fourth-ranked Charlottesville edged Louisa 48-40 and will meet No. 1 Powhatan. The girls games will be played Tuesday February 14 at WAHS.
In the Bull Run District boys action, No. 2 William Monroe boys cruised past No. 7 Central 72-52 to set up a third meeting this season with rival Madison, the No. 3 seed in the tournament. In the other semifinal, top seed and host George Mason advanced with a 82-30 win over Rappahannock and will next meet No. 4 Clarke County. Both games are set for February 14.
For the Bull Run girls, No. 2 Monroe downed No. 7 Manassas Park 55-30 to advance to the semis opposite No. 3 Central. Top seed George Mason defeated No. 6 Rappahannock 59-16. The semifinals will be hosted by Mason on February 15.
In the Commonwealth District tournament, the Albemarle boys were ousted on opening night by Brooke Point 48-34.
