January 3, 2012

After a long winter break and holiday tournaments, several local basketball teams opened league play Tuesday night.

The reigning Jefferson District boys champion, Fluvanna, opened Jefferson District competition with a 67-47 victory over Western Albemarle. YaYa Anderson led the team with 19 points. For the girls, Western started their trek towards a repeat title with a victory over the Flucos 41-29.

BOYS:
Appomattox 36, Monticello 61
Western 47, Fluvanna 67
Miller 101, Amelia Academy 69

GIRLS:
Fluvanna 29, Western 41
Harrisonburg 26, Charlottesville 37
Riverbend 53, Albemarle 33
