Mother Nature caused a shake-up in the high school basketball schedule on Friday night, and while a few teams made up their action during the weekend, several took the court on Monday to get re-scheduled games in.
On the boys side, Western Albemarle traveled to Monticello, but failed to secure its first district victory in a game that went down to the wire. The Mustangs came out with the hard-fought 73-69 victory in overtime. Monticello improves to 2-2 in district play, while Western falls to 0-3.
Albemarle welcomed Massoponax for a Commonwealth District battle. The Patriots trailed after the first quarter, but turned it on down the stretch to earn the 58-51 win. Kendall Hawkins led the Pats with 15 points, while Jake Hendrix added 14.
Girls action saw Monticello hosting Western Albemarle, with the Warriors cruising to the 51-33 win and remaining perfect in district play. Ellen Shaffrey led the Warriors with 16 points, while Carolyn Schneller chipped in ten. Bridgette Holloran scored 14 points for the Mustangs in the losing effort.
