'Hoos Fall at Florida State, Earn 10-Seed in ACC Tournament

The Virginia women’s basketball team lost its final regular-season game of the season, falling 82-70 at Florida State on Sunday. With the loss, the Cavaliers finish the regular season at 13-16, including a 6-10 mark in the conference.

After the game was tied at 44-44 in the second half, the Seminoles used a 28-10 to pull away from the 'Hoos. Florida State shot 61.1 percent in the game and 63.0 percent in the second half.

“I thought we came out strong in the first half, but we have been struggling to finish out a game,” Virginia head coach Joanne Boyle said. “For us as a team, I think there has just been a lack of discipline in the second half. As the coach, I am responsible for trying to figure out how to get us to play a 40-minute game.”

Virginia redshirt-senior guard Lexie Gerson scored a team-high 15 points, with three rebounds, two assists and three steals. Junior center Sarah Imovbioh finished with 13 points and nine rebounds.

The Cavaliers shot 41.3 percent overall, but were 11-of-38 in the second half. The loss is their fourth in a row and sixth in their last seven games.

With the loss, the 'Hoos will be the 10-seed in the 2014 ACC Tournament, will face 15-seed Boston College on Wednesday, March 5 at 3:30 p.m. Greensboro Coliseum will play host to the ACC Women’s Tournament for the 15th consecutive year.
