Local Pair Named All-State Field Hockey

Western Albemarle's Olivia Hajek and Monticello's Zoe Brents were both named to the Virginia High School Coaches Association All-State Field Hockey Team as First-Team selections Thursday.

Hajek, who led the Warriors to a Region II title and trip to the VHSL state semifinals, is also the Region II and Jefferson District Player of the Year while Brents is the Region II and Jefferson District Defender of the Year.

Several other area student-athletes were also named All-State Second Team. Jessie Powell, Caroline Deale and Morgan Schuler of Western Albemarle; Madison Combs and Gina Weigold of Monticello; and Charlottesville's Kendal Ballard and Maddy Eure received Second-Team distinctions.

Monticello's Georgia Proutt and Western's Moira Wright were named Honorable Mention.
