Mike London admits that Perry Jones wasn't exactly the most vocal player he's had in his time as head football coach at Virginia.
But London doesn't think that will hurt Jones, who is beginning his coaching career this summer at Albemarle High School.
"He led by example here. And there's all styles of leadership," London said when asked about Jones as a coach. "And I think that whatever Perry wants to do, that he'll be successful at that."
I'm sure the kids that he's going to be responsible for will look up to a guy that's been there, done that," London said. "So he can be an effective coach, or whatever he wants to be."
Jones finished his football career at Virginia after last season, leaving the UVa program as one of just four players to ever reach 1,000 career yards in both rushing and receiving. He also was a captain for his final two years with the Cavaliers.
Jones joined Mike Alley's coaching staff at Albemarle earlier this month, in time for the Patriots first day of practice on August 5. Jones is serving as the running backs coach for the varsity team, and offensive coordinator at the junior varsity level.
"He's a prime example of a young man that got an education. That played, was productive in his college career," said London. "And now he has a chance to give back to some other kids. I'm happy for him, and I hope he gets whatever he desires."
"That's a great story for him, and I wish him all the best."
