The Region II quarterfinals continued on Wednesday night as five area teams took the floor in games postponed from Tuesday's bad weather. Several local squads were able to win and advance, while others saw the clock run out on their 2010-2011 seasons.
The Charlottesville boys were able to keep their season alive with a 75-62 win over Park View. The Knights took a 36-25 lead into halftime and never trailed the Patriots. Deshaun Blakey paced Charlottesville with 25 points. The Knights move on to face Millbrook in the Region II semifinals on Thursday night.
Monticello was not as fortunate, falling to Woodgrove, 70-54. The Mustangs fell into a deep first half hole, trailing 37-18 at the break, and could not respond. The Wolverines advance to face top seeded Fluvanna on Thursday night. The Flucos topped William Monroe, 50-47, on Tuesday.
Orange also saw its season end on the road on Wednesday, falling at Liberty, 80-71.
On the girls' side, Western Albemarle earned a 61-40 win over Park View to advance to the Region II semifinals. Ellen Shaffrey led the Warriors with 19 points, while Carolyn Schneller chipped in 13. The Warriors welcome Charlottesville for semifinal action on Thursday, after the Knights defeated Monticello, 48-35, on Tuesday night.
William Monroe was unable to keep pace with a hot-shooting Skyline team, as the Dragons fell, 53-33. Summer Tarpley scored a team high nine points for William Monroe, which sees its season end at 20-5.
