The Monticello girls basketball team's season ended Tuesday at the Siegel Center in Richmond, as the Mustangs fell to Spotswood 70-57 in the Division 3 state semifinals.
The Mustangs jumped out to an 11-2 lead before the Blazers used a 12-4 run to close out the first quarter. Monticello led 34-27 at halftime, behind Molly Shephard's 20 points on 9-of-11 shooting.
Spotswood opened the third quarter on a 14-0 run and took a 41-34 lead, and the Mustangs weren't able to recover.
