Friday marked the first round of playoffs for several local teams, while others closed out their regular seasons.
Louisa staying perfect in its playoff opener with a 34-7 victory over James Wood in the Region II Division 4 quarterfinals. The Lions led 7-0 at the break, but exploded for 27 second half points. Louisa advances to the Region II semifinals, where the Lions host Broad Run next week.
Monticello took down Goochland for the second time this year, this time in the Region II Division 3 quarterfinals. The Bulldogs led 17-7 at the break, but the Mustangs able to shut them out in the second half en route to the victory. Jhalil Mosley threw for 123 yards and two touchdowns, while Dino Robinson posted two scores as well. The Stangs will face the winner of Handley and Western Albemarle next week.
Orange saw its season come to an end on Friday with a 53-7 loss at Briar Woods. The Hornets finish their season at 7-4, after last year's 4-6 campaign.
STAB earning a big 48-13 win over Christchurch. The Saints advance to the state championship game next week. STAB now 10-1 on the year.
Fork Union pulling off the 16-13 upset over Liberty Christian in the VISAA Division I state semifinals. The Blue Devils avenge a 35-20 loss to the Bulldogs from the regular season.
Madison fell in its regular season finale, 28-20, at Clarke, the Mountaineers finish up 8-2 on the season. Buckingham going to 9-1 with a 24-20 win over Central. Nelson, meanwhile falls, 41-0, to Altavisita.
