Friday night featured several close games and one local team looking to remain unbeaten. Everything was headlined by our Game of the Week between Louisa and Orange.

The Hornets struck first in this match up with a touchdown, but the Lions struck back to trim the lead to 7-6. By the fourth quarter, Orange had opened up a 17-9 lead and looked to hand Louisa its first loss of the year, but the Lions came alive. Kire Worley hooked up with Lorenzo Henson on a long pass play and after a two point conversion, the game was tied at 17. Louisa would score two more touchdowns and clamp down on defense to earn the 31-17 win. The Lions improve to 6-0 on the season, while Orange falls to 3-3, 2-1 in district play.

Western Albemarle earned its first district victory of the year with a 41-6 win over Charlottesville. The Warriors jumped out to a 27-6 lead at halftime and added two more scores in the second half. Western is now 2-4 on the season, while the Knights are 0-6.

William Monroe and Fluvanna played a dramatic thriller in Stanardsville tonight that ended with the Flucos earning a 33-28 victory. The Dragons jumped out to a 14-0 lead, but Fluvanna charged back to tie the game at 14, then take a 21-14 advantage. William Monroe would respond with two unanswered scores to take a 28-21 lead at the half. Fluvanna narrowed the gap to 28-27 and it would stay that way until the final seconds of the fourth quarter, and with 19 seconds remaining, Ya-Ya Anderson found the endzone to put Fluvanna ahead, 33-28. The Flucos improve to 3-3, 2-1 in the district, while the Dragons fall to 3-3 and 1-2 in league play.

Goochland jumped out to a 21-0 lead against Monticello, but the Mustangs would have the last laugh, winning 29-28 in dramatic come from behind fashion. Running back Jesse Ayres spear-heading the come back, carrying the ball 44 times for 254 yards and three touchdowns. Ayres eclipsed the 1,000 yard rushing mark for the season with the performance. Monticello improves to 3-3 and 2-1 in district play. Goochland falls to 1-2 in the Jefferson District play this season.

Albemarle earned its first Commonwealth District victory of 2010, topping Riverbend, 23-21. The Patriots jumped out to the 10-0 lead, before Riverbend stormed back in the second half, but a fourth quarter touchdown gave the Patriots the victory. Albemarle improves to 3-3 on the year and is now 1-2 in the Commonwealth District play.

Madison improved to 5-1 on the year with a 19-8 win over Stonewall Jackson. Ralph Yates rushed for a touchdown and Dustin Farmer threw a touchdown pass to Rashad Bolden to account for the two Mountaineer touchdowns. Stuart Dean's team will have a bye next Friday.

Nelson was unable to grab its first win of the season, falling at Gretna, 57-14. The Governors will try again against Dan River next Friday night.

Fork Union improved to 2-3 on the year with a 27-10 victory at St. Christopher's. The Blue Devils entered the day ranked fifth in VISAA Division I.
