With their high school careers winding down, fifteen Western Albemarle athletes celebrated their future careers in college athletics on Tuesday at Western Albemarle High School.
Senior soccer player Forrest White has been committed to Virginia Tech for more than a year. After looking at schools around the state, White said the Hokies' program stood out the most to him, and added that he's looking forward to playing in the ACC.
"Almost every school is in competition for being in the Top 25," he said of the conference. "Both of the national finalists from this past year were in the ACC. Every single game is a tough game, playing against great competition, with a lot of great media coverage."
Karli Pelletier will continue her field hockey career after Western, when she heads to Colgate. For Pelletier, the school and sport both played into her decision.
"I really like the balance of academics and sports," she said Tuesday. "Academics were the first thing I was looking for, and it really excelled there. And then the team, I visited and I fit in and loved the team, so it's perfect. I'm really excited, it's coming really close and I'm really excited for this summer and to prepare for college."
Emily Kochard has been one of the top tennis players for the Warriors throughout her career. Now, she'll continue that career as a member of the girl's tennis team at Washington & Lee.
"I'm so excited," she says. "I was recently down there for accepted students day and it was so much fun. I got to meet all these new people. I'm really excited to play on the team. The coach is great and so are the rest of the players, so I couldn't be more happy."
