The Western Albemarle girls are in the state tournament for the second time in three seasons.
The Region II runners-up, the Warriors will face Region I Champ Brunswick Saturday at the Siegel Center in Richmond.
But at practice Wednesday, Western coach Kris Wright insisted his team isn't looking at Brunswick and is instead enjoying just making it this far.
"This isn't supposed to happen all the time," Wright explained. "I know we've been here two of the last three years. We were really close to going three of the last four, but we try to embrace this as not a regular occurrence but enjoy the process, and if we can win on Saturday, all the better."
It's a view shared by seniors like Bridget Shaffrey, who was on the 2011 Western team that made a run into the semifinals.
"I mean it's just as awesome an experience as it was two years ago. It's definitely like a once in a lifetime thing and something I can continue to talk about years later," Shaffrey said.
Another senior, Abby Sewell, was on the junior varsity team that season but has become a leader on this Western team.
"We're trying to have fun because it is the reward part of our season like Coach always tells us so we're just trying to live up to what we always play like and just enjoy ourselves through the rest of the season," Sewell added.
