Western Albemarle Boys Tennis Closes Out State Championship

June 9, 2012

The Western Albemarle boys tennis team already had the best tennis player in the state. Now, the Warriors have the best team as well.

The Warriors downed E.C. Glass 5-3 Saturday in Blacksburg to bring the Group AA state title back to Crozet.

The teams were tied 1-1 before Western senior Cam Scot, the boys individual state champ, won his match at Number 1 but Glass countered with a pair of wins to force the match to doubles play at 3-3.

The duo of Scot and Will Diamond took care of business at Number 1 doubles to give the Warriors a 4-3 edge and Gray Evans and Timmy O'Shea sealed the deal at Number 3 for the 5-3 final.
