When the Western Albemarle boys tennis team hits the courts next spring in defense of its state championship, they'll be playing a brand new surface.
The tennis courts at Western are being repaved and renovated as part of an ongoing project at the school.
Both the tennis courts and the track are being remodeled in a several hundred thousand-dollar project that started at the end of the school year and should be finished by the first week of August.
According to Western Athletics Director Steve Heon, the repairs were "sorely needed" due to cracks and drainage system issues with the 25-year-old tennis courts.
