It has become an early November tradition in Jefferson District volleyball.
Western Albemarle beat Powhatan 3-0 Thursday night to win its 11th straight district volleyball title.
The Warriors took the first two games 25-22 and 25-15, then rallied from a 21-16 hole in the third game to clinch the championship with a 26-24 win.
"It never gets old," said senior Riley Martin. "It gets better and better every season. It feels like a new tradition is coming every season."
"We feel like we're carrying the tradition on our shoulders all the time," said senior Katie Rossberg. "And I feel like we really stepped up this year, because everyone is so young. And we did really well."
This district title is the first, for new Western head coach Jena McFaddin.
"They worked their butts off, " she said. "I came in hard, because as a new coach you've got to push them hard or they're going to walk all over you. I pushed them hard from the beginning, and it showed."
"It's incredible. It feels great," said senior Marin Crowder. "It takes a lot of work, but once it pays off it feels amazing."
