Western Albemarle's Katie Farina accepted a partial scholarship to High Point University and plans to run both cross country and track and field. She signed her Letter of Intent on Tuesday to make the decision official.
"It's been a big relief," Katie said. "I'm so excited to go to High Point. I love the coaches and the team. I'm just extremely excited to be a part of this program."
Katie said she's focusing mainly on track and field, calling the 800 meter dash and the mile race her favorites. Even as a college freshman, she hopes to contribute to the Division I team right away.
I'm hoping I'll be able to get in there and start running," said Katie. "They're really good about trying to give everybody a chance to prove themselves and make a statement. I'm excited to get in there and help the team as much as I can."
Katie has earned all-district, region, and state honors in her high school track career at Western, finishing 8th in the 800m last season at the VHSL AA State meet. Katie was also recognized on the All-Central Virginia Cross Country squad, finishing top 50 at the Region II meet.
