Western's Scot Wins State Singles Title

Western Albemarle's Cam Scot is the Group AA state champion in boys' tennis.

The senior won the singles title on Thursday in Blacksburg, beating Scottie Taylor of EC Glass in the state semifinals before a 6-3, 6-0 win over Blacksburg's Will Coffey in the finals.

Scot, the Warriors' No. 1 singles player all season, also won Jefferson District and Region II singles titles earlier this postseason.

Scot and Coffey will meet again on Friday in the Group AA team semifinals, also at the Virginia Tech Tennis Center. That match will now be played at noon Friday; the Western girls' semifinal match against Spotswood will be played at 9 a.m. Friday.

Scot's state title is the latest trophy the Warriors have added to their collection this school year. Boys' golf and girls' swimming also won state championships this season.
