Tuesday night saw several high school teams tipping off in non-district action on the basketball court. Several were able to earn key victories as we head towards holiday tournament time.
On the boys' side, William Monroe and Madison met on the Mountaineers home court, with the Dragons earning a 58-51 victory. Desmon Shaver paced Monroe with 18 points. Travis Warren scored 18 points for Madison in the loss.
Fluvanna and Spotsylvania played back and forth basketball for the first half, but the Flucos were able to pull away for the 89-73 win. Ya-Ya Anderson posted a huge night with 33 points, ten assists and six rebounds for Fluvanna.
Orange and Courtland went down to the wire, with the Cougars handing the Hornets a 58-55 loss. Tyler Seal had a good night for Orange in the losing cause, scoring 27 points.
Albemarle traveled to Mountain View for a Commonwealth District meeting. The Patriots fell in a close game, 56-50. Andrew Mann scored 21 points to lead Albemarle in the loss.
The Patriots and Wildcats meeting on the girls side as well, with Albemarle struggling and falling, 71-29. The Patriots trailed 15-2 after the first quarter as Mountain View controlled the game from the tip-off.
William Monroe welcomed Luray and grabbed a 40-35 win. The Dragons improved to 6-1 on the season with the victory. Alex Cave paced Monroe with 15 points, while Alexa Smith chipped in eleven.
Elsewhere, Orange fell to Courtland by a 52-37 score, while Tandem Friends lost to Wakefield, 52-42. Click on the above video link for highlights from Tuesday night's action.
