Anthony Kostelac is one of the best distance runners that Albemarle High School has ever seen. Last season, he was part of a 4 x 800 meter relay team that set a national indoor record and won the Penn Relays. This year he is putting a successful cap on his high school career as a senior, all while maintaining a solid showing in the classroom as well.
Kostelac was a Jefferson District and Northwest Region individual champion on the cross country course. He led the Patriots to a state meet berth. Indoor track saw the senior win regional and state championships in the mile and the 1000 meters. His talents caught the eyes of the coaches at Virginia, and Kostalec will take his talents to the ACC as he runs for the Cavaliers next year.
The classroom finds Kostelac maintaining a 4.0 grade point average. He has achieved straight A's in the first semester of his senior year. Kostelac says he knows that if he does not do well in school, he won't be able to run.
