Fluvanna County girls soccer player Melissa Messier has been selected as the Burger King Female Student-Athlete of the Year.

Last season, Messier was named first-team All-Jefferson District for her stellar play in the midfield.

The Flucos put together a solid season in 2011, falling just short of a Region II bid, and Messier helped lead the way as a team captain. She has also been a member of the cross country team, indoor track team and diving team. In addition to her success on the soccer field, Messier has also qualified for states in all individual sports teams at least once in her career.

Messier works just as hard in the classroom as she does on the field, and that sort of work ethic has propelled her to the number one ranking in her senior class.

Messier will attend Campbell University in the fall, and she'll be playing soccer for the Camels as well. She'll major in transplant surgery at Campbell.

Congratulations to Melissa Messier for winning the Burger King Female Student-Athlete of the Year. Click on the above video link to view Kristi Fulkerson's story on Messier.
