When Charlottesville's volleyball team celebrates senior night Friday, one senior who will be saying goodbye is team captain and four
year starter Elizabeth Reid.

Reid is in her second year as captain and a two time MVP for the Black Knights. "She's a great all around player," said Charlottesville volleyball coach Hillary Trebels. "She can pass, she can hit, she can serve, and I think that's shown through her stats all year."

Reid's impact goes beyond statistics, though. She is a vocal leader for the Knights, with many qualities her team will miss after she graduates. "We'll just miss her excitement and her passion for the game," says Trebels. "She's just really passionate about what she does."

Even though her high school career is ending, Reid is not ready to walk away from the court for good. "Thinking I'm never going to play volleyball on a team again and have games every week is so bittersweet," she says of her upcoming senior night. "If I could extend that for four more years, I don't know why I wouldn't."

Reid says volleyball and academics will both play big parts in her college decision, the same way both have played a big part in her
high school career. This year, she is balancing volleyball with 4 AP classes. "Practices are hard, and they exhaust you. I can usually only do around two hours of homework after practice, so it's a lot of going to
bed early and getting up early to finish homework."

With a challenging workload, Reid has learned to make sacrifices. "I don't think I've set foot in the cafeteria this year. I usually spend my lunches in the library getting my work done."

Having mastered the art of time management, Reid hopes to put her skills to work one day, possibly in sports marketing and communications. "Volleyball has taught me everything about what I want to do, about how to manage personalities and how to be a leader. If I can translate that into a career, that's what I want to be doing."
