The Albemarle boys' cross country team opened the season with a record-setting performance at the 2011 Ragged Mountain Cup. The Patriots' top foursome finished the 4x2 mile relay in 41:25, after a solid anchor leg from senior Adam Visokay. His 9:52 split is second-best in the 26-year history of the race.
Besides being the team's top performer after just three years competing as a runner, Adam is also a 4.0 student and captain of the Patriots 2011 squad.
With an emotional smile, head coach Buz Male called Adam 'one of the nicest kids he's ever met'. "He does not think about Adam Visokay, he thinks about every one of the 54 boys on this team. He wrote in his goals a captain that he personally wanted to make every kid feel a part of this team, and I think that's incredible."
For Adam, he's always had a team-first focus.
"It's kind of like in basketball you can have a really star player and win a lot of games, but in cross country no matter how good your number one guy is, you need to have to have a really solid team behind you if you're gonna do anything."
