Sammy Toy leaves the Fluvanna volleyball program with both the career and single season assist records, recording 777 sets-for-points in her final campaign this year.
But what will be remembered most about the Fluco captain, is her love of the game.
"Her enthusiasm on the court is so contagious, said head coach Christi Harlowe. "She plays with a passion I only wish I could duplicate in everybody."
"I enjoy it everyday," said Sammi. "Especially being able to lead them through such a great season and seeing the team rise to the challenge every game and play their hardest."
Another characteristic Coach Harlowe says the team will miss, is Sammi's ability to put her teammates first and lead by example.
"She really took that responsibility to heart, on the court as well as in the classroom and out in the community," Harlowe said. "She was always aware of people looking up to her and always wanted to make sure she was doing the best she could to help inspire them to do the best they could."
"It's kind of an awesome feeling knowing that I'm ending [my career]," Sammi said. "But I'm still helping these girls get through their high school career."
The senior is also a member of the Fluco Club at Fluvanna High School, an organized group that spends time in the community, volunteering and garnering support for the athletic programs.
This winter and spring, Sammi will continue to play volleyball with her club team and hopes to earn a college scholarship to play at the next level.
"I just love playing so much, it just gives me something to do. I feel like I'm on track when I'm playing volleyball"
